A New Member of The Family

Mom, Dad and Brother brought home a new member of the family.

Sis was, at first, terrified of the hissing, spitting and snarling little ball of fluff. As time goes on, Sis is beginning to pay more attention to Little Sam. It was quite funny to see such a tiny thing making a border collie cower in a corner, shaking in sheer terror.

Caitlin won't have anything to do with him. She is feeling resentful for being usurped as "Cat of the House".

Things should settle down as everyone adjusts to the new addition.

Check out this post to read more about Little Sam.

Well on the mend and hiking trails!

Finally decided to give hiking with Sister a try. A dear friend has encouraged me to at least bring Sister out to the forest and just see what happens. We won't know if it would be a good thing or a bad thing until we try.

The hike this morning was such a success! Sis stayed close by, didn't really show any interest in wandering off by herself. She actually stayed on the trail for the most part.

Later this afternoon, we are going to meet at the trail head again but this time Mrs. Waters is going to bring her little man, Frodo. Frodo is a Pomeranian and the sweetest fellow! He is a bit afraid of Sister, but I think on neutral ground, things will go well.

Sister had her left eye removed

Eye removal for dogs is called Enucleation.

Somehow in early August, Sis injured her left eye. It seemed to be healing well, then quickly took a turn for the worse. It became a deep red, blurry and swelled up. There was no saving this eye.

She went in for surgery on Aug. 21 to have that eye removed. She absolutely despised the "party hat" cone she had to wear for two weeks. Refused to go potty with it on.

This morning, we had the sutures removed and all is going well. It still looks pretty nasty but not as bad as that huge bulging red eye.

Sis is feeling a lot better already. Beginning to play again and is just itching to go herd her chickens.

Where's the Sun??

I always begin to feel uncomfortable when I see darkening skies. I love water, don't get me wrong. Nothing better than playing "catch the water" with Charlie, my boy, and the hose.
But there's this terrible feeling that comes over me in late June as white puffy clouds turn grey and build up and come together to block the sunshine. Then the dreaded ominous noise that rolls out of those clouds. I am certain that noise brings something that is going to tear me to shreds. My only source of comfort in these times is the bathtub with the shower curtain closed securely. I am additionally comforted when Charlie sits in the tub with me and wraps his arms around me. That doesn't happen often.
These people are so weird. They must have no idea how dangerous that noise monster is. They seem to enjoy watching the flashing arrows and hearing the rolling booms. I wait patiently until my boy feels such concern for me and tries to stop the terrible shakes that come over my body.
I am positive the monster can't find me here.
My little sister, Caitlin, is afraid of the monster, too. She is comforted by hiding in her bed. Silly little goose! She doesn't realize the first place a monster looks is in your bed.

Evening Chores

The girls love helping with the feeding chores.

Sister herds Nocona along into his trailer directing him to where the food is. Poor horse knows where to find his dinner. But Sis feels she is not doing her job if she doesn't herd him or the chickens. Then she needs to supervise over filling the chickens water tub, catching any stray squirts of water. There are times both she and Lil Bub come in soaking wet.

Occassionally our neighbors dog, Weiner, comes over to lend a hand... er... paw with the chores. I usually crack open an egg or two for him. He seems painfully thin and underfed. None of my business, but I joyfully give him eggs. Stops over for some hugs and a game of get the stick and heads back home.

Caitlin doesn't like Weiner at all. If she sees him outside, she sticks her nose in the air and goes back in the house. She doesn't like being treated like a fluffy little white and black ball to be mauled and rolled all over. Such a snotty little girl.

Welcome to our new blog!

Welcome!
This blog will be a photo/info blog about Princess Renee (Sister), a female Border Collie and Caitlin Elizabeth (Doodle) a female Shih Tzu.
Caitlin is terrified of the camera, so she likely won't be featured regularly.
Sister, on the other hand is so outgoing that we have photos galore of her (if mom can find them that is).
Sister is approx. 8 years old and is totally obsessed with water. And Nocona, the horse. She learned quickly to find Bubba (human brother who always tried to hide from Mom). "Sis, go find the baby!" and off she'd go. Baby is now 13 but will always be her baby brother.
Caitlin is a 6 year old Shih Tzu and is a prissy spoiled rotten brat. Shih Tzu are called lion dogs. Very cat-like personalities. "You can call me all you want, but I will come when I feel like it" attitude.
She likes to "think about" helping with the morning chores. She wants to go with until she sees that we're headed to the horse corral. "Oh, I'll just wait for you here in this little sunny spot, mom".
